My Life Fell Apart After Being Deported and How I Put It Back Together

The day remains stuck in my mind, and I don’t think I will let it go easily or anytime soon.

It was on February 12, 2024, when a friend of mine, a person I trusted so much, plotted my downfall.

This was not just any friend; it was someone I had shared meals with, laughed with, and even defended when others doubted him.

Yet, behind my back, he was planning how I would be sacked from one of the leading banks in London, where I used to pocket $84637 per month.

The friend, whom I cannot name because of security and legal reasons, came to my house one evening. He spoke with confidence, painting a picture of wealth and luxury.

He told me about a scheme, assuring me we could make billions of shillings through money laundering.

I remember his exact words, how he claimed he was well-connected to the British government and that nothing would happen to me, even if the bank discovered we were planning to inject fake money into the system.

Blinded by trust and greed, I agreed. But things unravelled faster than I could have imagined.

Within weeks, the bank discovered irregularities. I was arrested, dragged through lengthy court processes, and the media splashed my name everywhere. I was fined millions of shillings.

My cars, my house, and every valuable I had worked for were sold to cover legal costs. Then, in June 2024, my life took its darkest turn I was deported back to Kenya, broke, humiliated, and helpless.

The first few months back home were a blur of shame and depression. Friends avoided me. Family members didn’t know what to say.

But one evening in September, as I was scrolling through TikTok to distract myself, an advertisement popped up.

The banner read: Shaba Mangube Spells – Money Spells. I don’t know why, but something about it caught my attention. I called the number: +254 795 613 711.

They gave me an appointment date, and I went three days later. What happened there is something I still cannot fully explain, but I left with a strange sense of hope. Within a month, on October 10, 2025, I received an unexpected call from Equity Bank offering me a job.

In the phone call from Equity Bank, the HR said, “Dear so and so, we have done a background check online about the best systems audit specialist, and we are pleased to inform you that we will be hiring you. The budget for this position, by the way, is kshs 9737363 per month….”

Looking back, I still carry scars from that betrayal, but I also learned that even from the deepest pit, a path to redemption can appear when you least expect it.
